The fallen angel has breath.
Its presence begins in the body.
In the second movement of ANGEL DOWN, developed from Daniel Kraus’s novel, Ayami Inokawa is a co-creator. Through saxophone and effects, she embodies the story’s fallen angel: a presence whose breath, friction, and noise enter Cam Lasky’s electronic structures and generative images.
The saxophone carries the physical conditions of that encounter. Pressure, resistance, and the duration of a breath remain audible as its sound moves beyond the instrument.
Four compositions appear in two tellings: four Original Mixes and four Ayami Inokawa ReTold versions. Her composition and saxophone are central to the title track, The Gaff; the ReTold versions extend the collaboration across the complete work.
Breath and the body
A saxophone carries breath. It carries a body: the person breathing into the instrument. Even as its sound passes through effects and transforms into noise, traces of that body remain.
In Ayami Inokawa’s collaboration with Cam Lasky, breath, friction, and noise give sound a physical presence. A human origin remains audible within a sound travelling far beyond the instrument.
