Installation No. 1

This is not
a reconstruction
of a tragedy.

OEDIPUS REX · CAM LASKY

Installation Statement

Sound does not illustrate
the structure.

It becomes the structure.

Sophocles wrote a tragedy in which every attempt to escape the prophecy becomes part of its fulfilment. This work does not retell that narrative. It constructs the invisible architecture that makes the narrative unavoidable.

Prophecy, plague, perception, testimony, blindness, and hindsight are not treated as episodes, but as spatial conditions. Pressure, distance, obstruction, recurrence, false relief, and irreversible recognition become the materials from which the work is built.

The listener does not observe the architecture from outside. The listener enters it.

Rooms

Eight rooms.
One irreversible structure.

Each track performs a structural function inside the installation, altering what the listener is able to perceive—and what can no longer be denied.

01

The Prophecy

Gravitational Field

The prophecy does not predict the future. It changes the weight of every action that follows.

02

Plague

Urban Pathology

The city becomes a diseased body. Rhythm circulates as pressure, contamination, and collective failure.

03

Blind Seer

Perceptual Displacement

Sight and knowledge separate. The one without vision perceives the structure; the one who sees remains enclosed within it.

04

Crossroads

Architecture of Choice

A space built to preserve the belief that alternatives still exist—even after the decisive act has already occurred.

05

Messenger from Corinth

False Relief

Reassurance enters as information. The message intended to close the wound becomes the opening through which truth returns.

06

Shepherd’s Testimony

Retained Truth

Truth survives not as revelation, but as something carried, withheld, and finally released under pressure.

07

Blindness

Collapse of Vision

Vision ceases to be evidence. The fantasy that seeing guarantees understanding is dismantled.

08

Hindsight

Reverse Illumination

The opposite of prophecy: a structure visible only after it has already completed itself.

Three Rooms from the Installation

Image as surface.
Sound as the primary event.

These moving images are not narrative films. They are visual frames designed to hold the listener inside the music.

Room 01

The Prophecy

A field of inevitability. The image remains still enough for the listener to hear gravity accumulating.

Room 02

Plague

The sculpture acquires pathology. The city appears not as setting, but as an infected organism.

Room 08

Hindsight

Not resolution, but reception: the stillness that remains after the entire structure has become visible.

Production Notes

Reports to
Sophocles.

Eight reports from the construction site: what was retained, displaced, dismantled, or rebuilt in sound.

01 · The Prophecy

A threefold structure of curse, oracle, and prediction. The principal task was to make destiny audible before it became event.

02 · Plague

The city is treated as acoustic pathology: circulation, density, pressure, contamination, and collective collapse.

03 · Blind Seer

Blindness is not represented as deprivation, but as a transfer of perception from visible surfaces to invisible structure.

04 · Crossroads

A room built for the illusion of choice. Its apparent openings are already contained by the architecture surrounding them.

05 · Messenger from Corinth

Good news arrives as a structural breach. Relief becomes the mechanism through which buried information enters.

06 · Shepherd’s Testimony

The shepherd does not discover truth. He stores it. Testimony is designed as the release of something long held under weight.

07 · Blindness

The work dismantles the belief that vision leads naturally to knowledge. Recognition arrives only after sight has failed.

08 · Hindsight

Prophecy seen from the opposite direction. The final room reveals the architecture only after there is no longer any way to alter it.
